Mr. van Bavel completed his medical degree through the university of Melbourne winning the “Neil Bromberger prize in orthopaedics”. His Orthopaedic training was in Victoria winning the “Registrar in Training Prize” in 2003.

After completion of this training he undertook further fellowship training in Hip and knee surgery in Belgium, England and Canada. These fellowships included further training in;

• Hip and knee replacement and revision surgery.
• The use of Allografts in surgery (Cartilage transplant and donor tissues)
• Sports knee injuries.
• Patellofemoral problems.

Mr van Bavel is a specialist Hip and knee surgeon with a particular interest in Hip replacements and knee sports injuries. He is also a keen teacher and educator and has completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education. He is involved with registrar teaching of cemented hip replacement technique.

Outside of work he is a keen sportsman and played many years of competitive hockey. He now concentrates more on snowboarding and windsurfing, and occasionally plays golf – but badly.
