There are a group of conditions called Inflammatory arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is a common form of inflammatory arthritis that is well known because it leads to typical deformities especially of the hands. Inflammatory arthritis occurs more commonly in younger adults than osteoarthritis. Patients often complain of stiffness in their joints, especially in the morning. The joints may also be warm, swollen and painful.
If you have an inflammatory arthritis you may be referred to a rheumatologist. These are specialist doctors who treat these conditions. They may want to do tests to diagnose what sort of arthritis you have and can often prescribe medication that will help you.
